Abuse Of Waiver Wire

Summary: One of the members in my fantasy baseball league is making waiver moves everyday.
Stakes: Stop making moves every day, and limit to a couple times a week.

Plaintiff Arguments [Apr 7, 2009]

One of the teams found a loophole in our system this year and here we are one day into the season and I already can see this is going to be a problem.

We made the mistake of not capping waiver moves weekly.  Last season you could only do two moves a week, but this wasn't enough for everyone as people are getting hurt every day during the season, so we lifted the two a week ban.

Now Therms is on there every day tweeking his team and making mulitple add/drops a day, especially with spot starting pitchers. This isn't fair to everyone else who have real jobs and can't scower the wavier wire daily for pitchers and spot offensive guys and he needs to stop so theleague doesn't get ruined.

Defendant Arguments [Apr 7, 2009]

I am playing by the rules, or rather within the rules.  Our league website allows me to do this, there is nothing written in our constitution that says we can't do this, AND every time I do this I get charged a dollar that goes into the winners pot.  So stop crying about this and learn to play with it and take advantage of it.  It takes 15 minutes in the morning to look at your team and see who can isn't playing or who is better then someone you are playing.

Plaintiff Closing Arguments [Apr 7, 2009]

C'mon man you are exploiting this league with this crap.  Some of us have very demanding jobs and can't stay on top of things the way you can in your sales position.  We are slammed in the mornings and you have the ability to grab up all of the hot players.  It's an unfair advantage and yes, it is true that you are giving money into the pot, but it's also true that your odds of winning that pot are greatly increased with the bs.

It's not fair that you are going to continue this course of action and it needs to stop for the league's sake.  We all paid our dues and this really isn't fair.

Defendant Closing Arguments [Apr 7, 2009]

What am I some slacker that doesn't have a job either?! No, I just decide to devote more time to this league then the rest of you.  This is for money and it is competitive so why are we making rules to make the league less competitive?  I am not doing anything that anyone else can't do, you guys just CHOOSE not to do that.  I am adding money to the winners pot, so if I don't win I don't think you will find the person that ends up winning, complaining about my spot starters and all the money I contributed to the pool.  We all did pay our dues and I am adding to it by my waiver moves. Quit your complaining and play fantasy baseball.

You two are wrong
Look you guys aren't in college anymore, I sympathize with the plaintiff here and think the moves should be limited weekly with a "gentlemens agreement". Sounds like the defendant needs to get a life...

It's a competition!
You don't see professional teams, limiting their farm system, the amount of trades they make, or the amount of callups they have throughout the year. Why should therms???

Here's what I think (cuz God knows yer all waiting for the penguin to pipe in)...
I think the D is adhering to the letter of the law but knows damn well he's not acting in the spirit of the law. Just because you can get away with something doesn't make it right. What the D is doing is legal but it's not fair and he knows it.

Weak
The problem is you need a better commish.
Thadeus wrote:[Apr 8, 2009]
Terrible
He is within the rules but its such a terrible thing to do day in and day. Kills the integrity of the league.
Loblaw wrote:[Apr 8, 2009]
Add $
We had the same problem so we added a $1 per move clause. Every time you drop/added, you kicked in two bucks to the pot. It didnt completely stop the problem but it definitely slowed down the every day droppers.
