Plaintiff Arguments [Jul 1, 2009]

OK ... How long is too long. My girlfriend broke up with her man 2 years ago, she broke up with him mind you. She's since dated guys here and there but nothing too long term. A little while ago her ex and I met by chance at a bar and we started talking. One thing led to another and now we are dating. I was upfront with her and told her after the first date and she hasn't spoke to me since!

Am I way out of line here? It's not like the just broke up, or he broke up with her. I did the adult thing and went up to her and told her rather then sneak behind her back. She insists I'm out of line here, or so I hear through mutual friends.

I don't care if I broke up with him or not. It wasn't like we dated for a couple of months, it was for five years! It's just awkward! I mean I can't hang out with the two of you, and all of our friends are talking shit and making me uncomfortable. I know you didn't intend on doing this, but somewhere along the line a light bulb in your head should have went off and you should have realized, hey this is wrong. How would she feel, better yet how would I feel if the tables were turned. I have every right to be pissed at you. I think this is a black and white issue. You are way out of line, no matter how much time has passed.

It's not like he was some fling of hers. I suppose you're free to date whoever you want, but know that you absolutely will lose your girlfriend over this. She's not going to want to hang around with her ex just so she can see you.
