Plaintiff Arguments [Aug 2, 2009]

Anytime we have a party, the host provides the keg and the guests bring wine and spirits. Riggins never fails to bring a bottle but always takes it home with him at the end of the night. In fact, the bottle he brought in last nigt looked like it had already been opened so it was probably from the last party.

Dude- you bring the bottle as a 'gift' for the host. They share it with the other guests and then it becomes part of their bar. Its just the way we do it here.

Defendant Arguments [Aug 3, 2009]

Making me out to be the bad guy as always...I know that its customary to leave the bottle at a house party, even the really weak ones such as yours. The problem is, I drink something that no one drinks: Makers Mark Whiskey. No one in our group of friends would even dare smell the bottle without fear of gagging. So why would I leave a nice bottle that is half full stay at your house when I know for a fact no one is going to drink it? If I had a party and everyone brought apple-tini's over, I would be happy if they all left with it at the end of the night. Same goes here.

Common Practice
I don't think its the way you do it, it's the way society does it. Its common courtesy. Giving them a bottle of booze is the least you can do since they've got to deal with a bunch of drunk fools most likely

Well if noone else drinks it, it should still be at the hosts place for the next party especially for you, and you can bring a cheaper bottle of something else to share instead! If of course it has been consumed, I guess you aren't the only one who likes it, so suck it up!

If noone else drinks it, and it's supposed to be a gift for the host, than you shouldn't bring it! It's not for you, it's for the person that's inviting you into their home to share with his or her guests. That's like giving your mother something that she will hate but you will love for Christmas so that she'll give it to you! It's rude not to mention the fact that you're taking it home and regifting it!

If no one else drinks it then maybe you should bring your own bottle and another bottle of something else for the guests.
